Late night note after reading Grammy winners. The evening as an awards ceremony for a single corporation. Economics operating exactly as designed. The system is circular and self-reinforcing.

Recording members vote on the music they heard, which is a way of saying they vote on the music that gets promoted. The Grammys cannot platform the best artists today because these artists operate in an economic reality that the Grammy broadcast does not acknowledge because it cannot acknowledge it without exposing the architecture of exclusion on which the entire evening depends.

Instead it offers entertainment that functions beautifully as entertainment while obscuring the system that determines who gets to entertain in the first place.

BUT with Bad Bunny winning, Olivia Dean… the machine does produce substantial art. Which makes clean criticism harder.
